FURIN

A Wholesome & Contemplative Walking Simulator

Game Overview

Furin is a wholesome and contemplative academic project developed entirely solo. The core experience revolves around exploring a mysterious environment to place traditional wind chimes (Furin) on lanterns, gradually dispelling a dense fog to unearth and raise an ancient dragon statue.

Unlike traditional games, there is no game over, no combat, and no timer. The focus is entirely on atmosphere, environmental storytelling, and the satisfying transition from a greyscale world back to vibrant colors.

Project Specs

  • Role Solo Developer (Game Design, Level Design, Programming)
  • Engine Unreal Engine 5
  • Key Technologies Blueprint Visual Scripting, Dynamic Post-Processing, Adaptive Controller UI
  • Duration Academic Semester

Core Mechanics

The Chimes (Furin)

Players must explore the environment to find and place traditional wind chimes on specific lanterns to progress.

Dynamic Fog Clearance

Activating a lantern dynamically removes the greyscale post-process filter and thick fog, bringing vibrant colors back to the area.

Adaptive UI

Seamlessly detects the player's input method, instantly swapping UI prompts between Keyboard/Mouse and Gamepad.

Post-Mortem & Reflection

"Wearing multiple hats as the project's Game Designer, Level Designer, and Programmer pushed me to handle the entire creative and technical pipeline. It allowed me to bridge the gap between emotional Game Design and Blueprint visual scripting, successfully implementing my own mechanics from scratch while managing the technical integration of all visual assets and strict performance optimization."
